I agree he doesn't have to be sacrificed. However, you are in a situation where your game designer has publicly (intentionally or not) stated that his idea of EVE is the diametric opposite of what your customers are paying for, that he doesn't care that your customers disagree with his plans, and that your customers are merely the goose that keeps laying golden eggs and can be milked for as much cash as you want. If you think that having this person in any position relevant to EVE is going to work, you're either completely, totally nucking futs, or a politician. Nobody will trust you with anything as long as he is involved with game design no matter what you do, not even if you continue on the road that many of us don't want: There's still that he insulted your paying customers, and you don't get away with that sort of thing. Let him work on WoD or Dust and hope those potential customers don't find out, but remove him from any position with power over EVE or you will lose the customers he has insulted.

Likely also the smartest thing.
Before the cashflow eats too deep.
It would also mean they would get to keep the money that people paid for subscriptions and PLEXes while not having to provide any service in return, so it could save the personal wallets of the company owners...

Originally by: Aineko Macx Dear anonymous CCP employee that leaked the bulletin: You care more about your customers than the board of directors. Taking risk upon yourself, you brought us the truth, and shall thus be considered a hero!
The board of directors is full of people who are interested in making money from CCP for their employer, the companies that funded CCP. Nothing special about that either but don't expect them to care very much about players if they can make more money without them (or make themselves believe they can).

Top story on slashdot.
Way to not respond soon enough CCP.
They probably thought that they'd have at least a week, given slashdot's usual lag...

Actually they would not be allowed to comment on it at all. Sony is publicly traded in the US and the usual rules apply. However, not every employee would know about it in the first place.

No he's not. The ship for aurum plans have been confirmed previously. If they never had "gold ammo" plans, that means ships aren't covered by gold ammo.

You can keep telling yourself that while they're busy changing EVE so it suits the other, bigger target market.

Originally by: Steven internet What comes into CQ. I, like many many others, play this game to fly spaceships killing spaceships while in space. If I would like to pimp my avatar, shake my virtual ass, walk, run, pose, chat, have a haircut or find a e-GF I would play some OTHER game.
This is the player side. The CCP side of it is that they capitalize almost all of their dev expenses, i.e. salaries they pay to devs go into assets because the devs wrote code that has value estimated at the cost of developing it. If they then figure out that they won't actually make money of this code, they have to write it off, resulting in a huge red number on a balance sheet as assets go poof. Losing tens of millions of dollars doesn't look good but if they can fudge some of the Dust/WoD work into EVE they don't have to do it.

Originally by: Stormchyld ... there are several good threads in the Market Discussion forum section that I think sums up the financial situation eve is in right now.
Unfortunately the one you quoted doesn't get it.
CCP itself lists PLEXes as a liability as they are revenue they can not recognize until the subscription period actually starts. It's not something people are presenting it as, it's something that CCP does so they can put them on their balance sheet at all. The term "liability" doesn't actually have a negative connotation in that context. It's standard practice for subscriptions that are paid up front.
And they are considering the income split, or more accurately they don't have to in terms of liability. When you credit a PLEX to your account they can start recognizing the revenue from when it was originally bought, therefore reducing liabilities in their balance sheet.
They only problem they could have with PLEXes is the reduction in cash flow, but that is capped at $3 million in total, and applying all of it in short time is near impossible. You would need about 200k normally paid subscriptions to pay with a PLEX for the same month. Not going to happen.

Originally by: RougeOperator If a lot are cashed in all at once, they could find they are not making enough new money at that point to cover expenses.
They are already not making enough new money to cover their expenses. The PLEXes in existance are a lot less and even if you wanted to hurt CCP it would be borderline impossible to use them in a way that has an impact beyond a few $10k per month. They are already burning $700k or so per month due to WoD/Dust development so PLEXes are not a very big deal.

It's very similar to EVE as it was a few years ago, but a smaller world and tiny server population (until we arrived). Oh and robots instead of spaceships (including terrain that has meaning in PvP). If you want to try another sandbox game I can only recommend it. It will take a few days to get through to it because it's no bit easier than starting EVE from scratch. The 14 days of trial you get should be enough to get an idea.
Currently they're having a bit of trouble with lag from all the noobs. I don't know when they will have fixed that but they run an IRC server where you can talk to the devs in case you can not talk to them in game for some reason.

Originally by: Genie ExTS ARE YOU GOING TO INTRODUCE NON-VANITY ITEMS INTO THE NEX MARKET?
Not answered, but easy to figure out.
They will release Dust as f2p with mt next year. If it goes well, they'll understand that to mean that mt and pay2win is the way to go. If it doesn't go so well, CCP goes **** up anyway over not being able to recoup Dust development expenses, so there's still no way we will not get non-vanity items.
